Jesus Christ: The Only Way to God

The greatest question every human being must answer is this: How can I be reconciled to God? Wealth cannot answer it. Religion cannot answer it. Good works cannot answer it. Philosophy cannot answer it. Every generation has searched for truth, yet God has already given the answer in one person—Jesus Christ.
The Bible presents Jesus not merely as another religious teacher, prophet, or moral reformer, but as the eternal Son of God who came into the world to save sinners. At His baptism, the Father declared from heaven, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). On the Mount of Transfiguration, God again testified, “This is my beloved Son... hear ye him” (Matthew 17:5). The testimony of heaven leaves no room for doubt. Jesus is God's Son.
Jesus Himself declared His divine identity in unmistakable terms. He said, “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30). When Philip asked Him to show them the Father, Jesus replied, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9). John opens his Gospel with these remarkable words: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:1,14). The apostle Paul wrote, “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9). Jesus is not simply a messenger from God; He is God revealed in human flesh.
Some acknowledge Jesus as a great prophet but reject Him as the Son of God. Yet Jesus accepted worship (Matthew 14:33; John 9:38), forgave sins (Mark 2:5-12), exercised authority over nature, sickness, demons, and death, and rose bodily from the grave on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). His resurrection remains the central proof of His claims. As Paul wrote, He was “declared to be the Son of God with power... by the resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:4). If Christ rose from the dead, then His words demand the attention of every person.
Jesus made perhaps the most exclusive statement ever spoken: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Notice that He did not say He was a way or one truth among many. He said He is the way, the truth, and the life. If these words are true, then every road that bypasses Christ ultimately fails to reach God.
This exclusiveness is not rooted in arrogance but in God's plan of redemption. Humanity has a universal problem called sin. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin separates mankind from God. “Your iniquities have separated between you and your God” (Isaiah 59:2). No amount of religious activity, charity, morality, or self-discipline can erase guilt before a holy God. “All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). If people could save themselves, there would have been no need for Christ to die.
This is why the cross stands at the center of history. Jesus willingly offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin. Isaiah prophesied centuries beforehand: “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities... and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). At Calvary, Jesus bore the punishment that belonged to us. “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). He who knew no sin became sin for us, “that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
The Bible describes Jesus as “the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 2:2). Propitiation means that Christ satisfied the righteous judgment of God against sin. God's justice was not ignored; it was fulfilled through the sacrifice of His Son. Because Jesus paid the full price, forgiveness can now be offered freely to everyone who believes.
The Scriptures also declare, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all” (1 Timothy 2:5-6). A mediator stands between two parties to bring reconciliation. Humanity could not bridge the gulf created by sin, but Jesus, being both fully God and fully man, became the perfect Mediator. Through Him alone, sinful people can approach a holy God.
The apostles proclaimed this truth boldly. Standing before the religious leaders, Peter declared, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). This was not the opinion of one apostle but the consistent message of the New Testament. God has appointed one Saviour because only one Saviour died for the sins of the world and conquered death.
Many religions sincerely seek God, and many individuals have claimed to possess the truth or to be saviours. Sincerity, however, does not determine truth. The real question is whether God has authenticated anyone as the Saviour of the world. Jesus alone fulfilled ancient prophecies concerning the Messiah, lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:15), died as an atoning sacrifice, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven. No founder of any other religion claimed all these things and then validated those claims by rising from the dead. Christianity rests not merely on moral teachings but on the historical death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The invitation of Christ is for everyone. It reaches the skeptic who demands evidence, the atheist who questions God's existence, the Muslim seeking God's mercy, the religious person trusting in rituals, and the sinner burdened by guilt. God “will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). Jesus said, “Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37). No one is beyond His saving grace.
How then does a sinner receive this salvation? The Bible makes the answer wonderfully clear. First, recognize and admit your sin before God. “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves” (1 John 1:8). Second, believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again. “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9). Third, repent by turning away from sin and turning to God. Peter preached, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19). Fourth, receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God” (John 1:12). Finally, call upon Him in faith. “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
Salvation is not earned by human effort. It is God's gift. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). Grace means God gives what we do not deserve. Faith is the hand that receives that gift. No sinner is too sinful to be forgiven if he comes to Christ in genuine faith.
The decision to accept or reject Jesus is the most important choice anyone will ever make. Jesus said, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (John 3:36). God has provided one door of salvation, one perfect sacrifice, one Mediator, and one name by which people may be saved. That name is Jesus Christ.
The evidence of Scripture is overwhelming. The Father declared Him to be His beloved Son. The prophets foretold His coming. His miracles confirmed His authority. His sinless life revealed His holiness. His death satisfied God's justice. His resurrection demonstrated His victory over sin and death. His ascension established His lordship. His promise of eternal life remains open to all who believe.
If you have never trusted Jesus Christ, today is the day to come to Him. Call upon His name, confess Him as Lord, believe that He died and rose again for your salvation, and receive the free gift of eternal life. For Jesus Christ is not merely one way among many. According to the Word of God, He is the only way to the Father, the only truth that sets people free, the only life that conquers death, and the only Saviour approved by God for the redemption of the world.
